• How to Register at FlyStories.Com?

  We require registration to FlyStories.Com, which will enable you to post your scary, naughty, pilot, crew, helicopter, or whatever - stories to the site. We encourage you to do so! Registration is FREE and the process very easy.

  

  Just click on the Registration button and a registration form will open that enables you to register.

  

  An email will be send to the email address you submitted for authentication purposes.  After registration, and once you authenticate yourself, you are able to login and submit your very own stories to FlyStories.com, build your own "My Favorites" list, and share your experiences with other users and readers!

This includes but is not limited to any information collected in email lists, or polls. Any and all information stored by FlyStories.Com is kept only to enhance the experience of our visitors and provide a more personalized experience.

• Do I get emails upon submission of a story?

  No you don't get any emails upon submission of a story. You can post and read completely anonymously without any fear of being recognized by others.

  We never send any emails to the address you have submitted unless you initiate a contact through any of our forms such as password retrieval or Contact Us. Again complete anonymity there!

  However, if you comment on a story, your user name will appear.

• I am logged in but I am lost

  Once you are logged in a User Menu will appear in the right pane that looks similar to this:

  
  

  Here you can update Your Details, Submit your stories and add stories or videos to your My Favorites area. Make sure that if you change your User Name in the Your Details area that you write down the new User Name. If you don't you will not be able to retrieve your password if it gets lost and you will have to Contact Us for further assistance.

• HELP! I have forgotten my password!

  You have lost your password? You can retrieve it easily through the retrieval link in the drop down panel called "Open Login Panel" at the top of the page.
  

  Click the Lost Password Link and a retrieval form will appear: If this does not work you can Contact Us for further help.

  

Submit Stories

• Do I need to login to submit a story or give it a rating??

  Yes you need to login. Only Registered Users can submit stories, comment on them, give them a rating, and send to a friend. The login procedure is almost self-explanatory:
  

  Enter the User name you choose when registering and your password then click login.

• How easy is it to submit a story?

  Make sure to read the warning below so you don't lose your work!

  We have provided you with an editor similar to your Word - editor on your PC to create the story online. As you move your mouse over the buttons a window will pop up explaining what it is.

  • It is best if you write your story in Microsoft Word (or some other text editor).
  • By using your editor to creat your story you will have a spell checker handy.
    
  • If you use Microsoft Word:  Copy and then Paste it in the pop-up window that will appear when you click the Paste from Word button.  Microsoft word's coding could really mess up your work if you try to copy and paste directly into the editor itself.  So for your sake please don't.

  

  WARNING: If you decide to type directly into the editor and you are not completely done, clicking any other button other than the Save button will cause you to LOSE ALL your work!

  This is the other reason we suggest doing it on your computer first. It is a minor limitation that is easily dealt with as long as you know in advance.

• Pictures - What do I need to know?

  Your Pictures will not show UNLESS:

  1. There are No Spaces in the name. ie: my picture.jpg won't work. ==> mypicture.jpg or my_picture.jpg will work.
  2. There can be No Capitals Letters in the name. ie: Airplane.jpg won't work. ==> airplane.jpg will work.
  3. You must use the introtext image and maintext image fields (below the title field) to select the picture you want to upload from your computer. A picture of the introtext and maintext image fields are shown below.
  4. Your pictures is less than 50KBs in size.
  5. Allowable image types are: png, gif, jpg

  

   

• Can you explain the fields at the top of the Submit a Story area?

  This is just to help keep things a little more organized.

  First select a Section from the drop down list that you think your story would fit in the best.

  Second, do the same for the Category. If you can't find a category that best suits your story just post it for now in "Others" and send us a request to add a category ;)

   

  

  
  

   

  Next you will see that the system automatically enters your user name and email address. You cannot change this since this is related to your login id at that moment.

  These will NOT be visible to the public.

  You also have the option to upload images to be used in your stories. One image can go in the Introduction Pane (remember 500 characters! max) and one for the Main Text Pane. Don't forget to give your story a Title! It won't be saved without a title.

• How do I create an external Link in a Story?

  It's pretty easy. This image should explain it fairly well! Please note that we have a linking verification system in place and we do NOT accept "hidden" ads! If found those Stories will be removed!

   

  

  
  

   

• How do I insert a YouTube/Yahoo/Google/etc hosted Video?

  Well pretty easy actually!. You need to insert the id of the providers in a special way. At the point you want to insert the video to your story or text this is what you will type into the editor:

  {videohostingservice}xxxxxxx{/videohostingservice}

  Videohostingservice -- being something like Youtube. Note that there is a " / " in the second set of brackets that you can't miss.

  xxxxxxx -- is the video_id code of the video. To find it you just right click on the thumbnail of the video and select properties.

  Each site has its own ID method and we have included 33 of them here. Just scroll down this list and select Read more... to find the one you are looking for.

  For Google Video use: {google}video_id{/google}
  For example if the link on your browser displays http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3406925506469882756 then your video_id is -3406925506469882756, that means the characters that come after "docid=". Please note that in some cases there might be a minus sign (-) before the last sequence of digits or not!

  Yahoo

  For Yahoo! Video use: {yahoo}video_id{/yahoo}
  For example if the link on your browser displays http://video.yahoo.com/video/play?vid=c860df3ccf66c83fb61bb2ffd934330b.1155220&cache=1 then your video_id is 1155220&cache=1, that means, everything that is AFTER the last DOT on the link!

  For example if the link on your browser displays http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdXTDovB9K8 then your video_id is cdXTDovB9K8, that means, again just the number at the end of the link!

  For example if the link on your browser displays http://www.ifilm.com/ifilmdetail/2732615 then your video_id is 2732615, that means, yes you've guessed too, just the number at the end of the link!

  For MySpace Video Code use: {myspacevideocode}video_id{/myspacevideocode}
  For example if the link on your browser displays http://www.myspacevideocode.com/v-3673-afternoon-delight.php then your video_id is 3673.

  Break

  For Break use: {break}video_name{/break}
  For example if the link on your browser displays http://www.break.com/index/rally41.html then your video_name is rally41. Break uses Windows Media Video (WMV) to stream content.
